Diabetes is actually a disease of the microangiopathy (or the small blood vessels).

The enhanced circulation that is stimulated by the FIRS (Far Infrared Sauna) can be of extreme benefit for the diabetic as it can prevent some of the devastating complications that are normally experienced.

FIRS can significantly enhance circulation (please refer to the heart health for the effects on the circulation) and it also has a direct effect of lowering blood sugars.

Expert Comments

Diabetes impairs our body’s ability to balance the use of energy (glucose) derived from the foods we eat, when the pancreas stops making insulin, a natural hormone which delivers glucose to our cells.

Far infrared can increase microcirculation, relieve pain, reduce swelling, flush toxins and help to rejuvenate healthy cellular functioning through increased nutrition and oxygenation. Far infrared waves inhibit bacterial growth, reducing the chance of infection.

Weight Loss

Obesity and excessive weight are major concerns in healthcare due to the extensive complications that can occur as a result.

It is therefore necessary for us to pay particular attention to this subject.

Most people go through phases of both weight loss and weight gain, which can be harmful to the body. FIRS therapy offers one of the safest and most effective ways to lose weight naturally.

Here is how it works…

First, it heats up your body, causing a passive exercise response. This will burn calories. In a report by the Journal of American Medical Association, it was published that 1.2 hours in the sauna was equivalent to burning 600 calories.

Secondly, following the burning of calories, the toxic chemicals that are stored in these fat cells are immediately released into the circulation. And due to FIRS ability to increase the efficiency of the body’s excretion organs (i.e., skin, bowels, lungs, and kidneys), these harmful chemicals are safely released outside the body.

So, not only do we lose the fat cells, but we also lose the chemicals that are stored in these fat cells which often cause the health of our other cells to be compromised.

Cellulite is a common term used to describe superficial pockets of trapped fat, which cause uneven dimpling or “orange peel” skin. It appears in 90% of post adolescent women but is rarely seen in men.

Common, but not exclusive, areas where cellulite is found, are the buttocks, thighs, and the abdomen. Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not related to obesity, since it occurs in overweight, average, and thin women. The appearance of cellulite is not always reduced by weight loss.

Cellulite occurs in the subcutaneous fat layer just beneath your skin. Your skin is connected to the underlying muscle by vertical strands of tissue. The combination of this connective tissue pulling in on your skin and fatty deposits and fibrosis pushing out against your skin cause the dimpled appearance of cellulite.

Since the far infrared radiant heat of the Gentle Heatwave sauna warms three times as deep as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite.

There is a direct link between the slowing of metabolic rates and the storage of toxins in fat cells.

Sauna use and infrared heat can increase heart rate and localise blood circulation, which essentially reverses the above-mentioned trends towards the accumulation of liquids in the fat cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

A moderately conditioned person can easily sweat off 500 gms, in a sauna, consuming nearly 300 kcal, the equivalent of running 2-3 miles. A heat conditioned person can easily sweat off 600-800 Kcal with no adverse side effects. While the weight of the water loss can be regained by rehydration, the calories consumed will not be.

Pain / Arthritis / Fibromyalgia

FIRS therapy has one of the most profound effects for those suffering from chronic pain which is normally associated with injury and inflammation.

In age related arthritis (osteoarthritis), a degenerative process, the effects of degeneration cause the feeling of pain.

Pain medications are common in today’s society and account for many problems due to their extensive side effects.
Natural pain medications are therefore getting a great deal of attention and respect and FIRS has been used as one of the most effective natural processes in reducing pain.

FIRS allows the circulation in the area of the pain to be enhanced, while changing the physiological stressors involved in the pain/injury/inflammation mechanism.

This is one of the best approaches to alleviating pain as it allows the area around the nerve to be finally free of its pain influences.

We have had tremendous success with relief of chronic pain using receptive sauna therapy and now the published literature is showing us the mechanism of action.

The science behind sauna therapy is easy to understand and supports this program with any person that has pain complications.

Sports injuries

Many professional athletes are now incorporating the use of the FIRS in their activities.

Pre Workout

There are 3 fundamental uses for the athlete warming up before their activity. We all know the benefits of stretching our muscles before an activity that requires them to be worked on.

We know that with proper stretching, we could both reduce our chances of injury and also have increased flexibility for enhancing athletic performance.

With the addition of FIRS, we can have a better stretch due to the heat effect.

Tissues heated to 45°C and then stretched exhibit a non-elastic residual elongation of about 0.5 ~ 0.9% that persists after the stretch is removed. It does not occur in these same tissues when stretched at normal tissue temperatures.

Thus 20 stretching sessions can produce around 10 ~18% increase in length in tissues heated and stretched.
This effect would be especially valuable in working with ligaments, joint capsules, tendons, fasciae, and synovium that have become scarred, thickened or contracted.

Stretching at 45°C causes much less weakening in stretched tissues for a given elongation than a similar elongation produced at normal tissue temperatures.

Cited experiments clearly show that low-impact stretching can produce a significant residual elongation when heat is applied together with stretching or range-of-motion exercises, which is also safer than stretching tissues at normal tissue temperatures.

This safer stretching effect is crucial in properly training competitive athletes so as to minimize their “down” time from injuries.

Post Workout

Immediately following their intensive workout or sport activity, the working cells and tissues need to be repaired and require an additional amount of oxygen and circulation to that area. FIRS therapy provides the means and delivery of this physiological requirement.

Following an injury that requires repair, FIRS offers long-term relief by supplying the necessary circulation needed to begin the whole repair process.

Insomnia, fatigue, and depression

It is essential in today’s society to feel energised, as we need to be functioning at our best when we are awake.
When our body optimizes its physiological processes, our mood becomes better, we sleep better, and our energy goes up.

Far infrared therapy stimulates these natural processes in the body.

J Cardiol. 2006 – Successful thermal therapy for end-stage peripheral artery disease. This is a powerful study that is published in a highly recognized medical journal (the journal of cardiology), which clearly demonstrates the importance of sauna therapy for heart disease.

Circ J. 2006 – Repeated thermal therapy up-regulates endothelial nitric oxide synthase and augments angiogenesis in a mouse model of hindlimb ischemia. This was a recent landmark study that is going to lead to many more studies due to the implications that it can have for humans. The study was done in rats and clearly demonstrated the long-term circulation effects through sauna therapy. In the study rats were given sauna therapy that caused a process of new blood flow and circulation (angiogenesis – new blood vessel formation) to an ischemic part of the rats. Ischemia is defined as a reduction in blood flow and circulation, and in humans, many health challenges, particularly the complications of cardiovascular disease, are due to ischemia. As you can see, this study has profound implications for humans as we are desperately searching for ways to correct ischemia and stimulate new blood vessel formation. Due to being a sound study and the impact it can have for humans, particularly in age-related conditions and heart disease, it has been published in the highly regarded journal Circulation, 2006.

Check with your physician or pharmacist if you are on prescription drugs, if you have, systemic lupus, erythematosus or multiple sclerosis, have had a recent (acute) joint injury, are pregnant, have surgical implants, are menstruating, or haemorrhaging, also if any condition or pain should worsen when using an infrared heat system.

Please note: Silicone implants are only at risk at 200°F. Since you are never using the Far Infrared Sauna past 120°F, there is no danger to people with silicone implants. Many people with surgical implants use our saunas successfully with no pain whatsoever!

The data presented in these articles is offered for reference purposes only and to stimulate further observation. No implication of Gentle Heatwave sauna creating a cure for or treating any disease is implied nor should it be inferred. If you have a disease, be sure to consult with a primary-care physician concerning it.

Why a Far Infrared Sauna?

“There are 82,000 unregulated chemicals in production today and only ¼ of them have ever been tested for toxicity….”
National Geogaphic Oct. 2006

“There are more than 20,000 chemicals in production today that our bodies cannot metabolise”.
EPA study

Since birth we have been steadily accumulating these toxins and heavy metals by ingestion (eating) as well as assimilation through our skin and breath. Since our bodies will not take the risk of metabolizing toxins, our fat cells surround them, which protects our organs from their disrupting and degenerative activities!

“Studies of chemicals stored in the fat of humans show 100% of us have dioxins, dichlorbenzene and PCBS, for example…..”
US EPA study

Eventually this cache of toxicity will signal its existence in the guise of stiffness, pain, disease, etc.

“Studies confirm that diet and environmental chemicals cause 95% of cancers…”

The Far Infrared Sauna is one of the most effective means available on earth to detoxify us!

“The Infrared (FIR) heat causes a profoundly deep sweat flushing large amounts of toxic acids and heavy metals from the body”.
Robert O Young, PhD, DSc

The far infrared sauna causes profuse sweating which will release a lifetime of toxins from the body storage.

Since we’re continually being bombarded by new chemicals every day, a far infrared sauna van become a tool to keep you “cleaned out” for life.
